Today is going to be a good day!
Positive Thinking Day is a time set aside each year to concentrate on all things positive. Staying positive can have many benefits... but we all know it’s hard to stay this way all the time! That’s when swimming comes in handy.
Children can often be fearful of water if they are not sensitised to it. Overcoming this fear can be extremely empowering, boosting their confidence and self-esteem.
This newfound confidence can extend to social situations, which allows your child to interact with others and make new friends. Improving self-esteem instils a positive attitude - one small positive thought in the morning can change the entire outcome of your day!
Swimming, while often thought to be a solo activity, is actually a great social activity. It introduces you and your child to others with similar interests and lifestyles. Children enjoy the interaction with other children where they find a common interest and can build valuable friendships outside of school.
The Science Behind It
Swimming workouts release endorphins, natural feel-good compounds that increase positivity and bring about a sense of wellbeing and happiness. Studies also found that swimming can help to promote the growth of new brain cells in parts of the brain which break down during chronic (long-term) stress. It’s therefore suggested that swimming might enhance our ability to manage and cope with stress! At swim! we celebrate each child individually as they work through our programme and achieve their awards.
Finally, the best thing you can do for yourself and others, today and everyday is to simply smile :)
